Wonder how the safety police would feel if they knew my babies both slept in a crib that was over 50 years old and which was wired shut by us once we had problems getting the drop side to stay up.

Cribs are for sleeping only people! Cribs are NOT playpens or baby sitters!

Four crib-related deaths -- a major tragedy requiring the recall of over 2.1 million cribs. You have got to be kidding! We kill 150 babies every day on purpose. Why worry about only four more?

Now back on topic..

I have a drop side crib and used it with all my kids... I co sleep as well, but I never really put them in there except to sleep. My newest child likes to sleep in his playpen over his crib.. so who knows.. It's my last baby so this crib will just go in the trash :P Ive had it for 4 years now.
