Heard of many of the teams. I too have questioned why a single location for all of the games, particularly for teams that are close to each other, but not Jerry World!

Thurs, 10 AM: 2A-II, Albany and Bremond--Albany is up near Mineral Wells, and Bremond is sort of between Waco and Bryan. I'd go with the field at Tarleton State University in Stephenville.

Thurs, 1PM: 2A-1, Canadian and Mason--Canadian is in the Texas Panhandle, and Mason is west of Llano. Game SHOULD HAVE been in Abilene!

Thurs, 5PM, 3A-II, Waskom and Newton--Waskom is west of Shreveport, and Newton's north of Beaumont...and they want them to play in Arlington?!? Why not do the game in Nacogdoches?!?

Thurs, 8PM, 3A-1, Mineola and Cameron Yoe-- Mineola is east of Dallas, and Cameron's a half-hour south of Temple. Hmmm. McLane Stadium in Waco?

Friday, 12PM, 4A-II, Gilmer and West Orange Stark--Gillmer's north of Longview in east Texas, and West Orange is north of Beaumont. I would've done a double-header with the Waskom/Newton game!!

Friday, 4PM, 4A-1, Argyle and Navasota--Argyle is a wide spot northeast of Fort Worth, and Navasota is a stone's throw from College Station. Waco or Austin as a neutral site?

Friday, 8PM, 5A-1, Ennis and Cedar Park--Ennis is southeast of Dallas off I-45. Cedar Park is north Austin. I call McLane Field.

Sat, 12PM, 5A-II, Aledo and Temple--Aledo is west of Fort Worth. Game should've been either at McLane Stadium or at TCU's in FW--which is a toss-up in distance for Temple, compared to Jerry's place.

Sat, 4PM, 6A-II, Katy and Cedar Hill--Cedar Hill is south of Dallas; Katy is west of Houston. Game should've been at either Kyle Field in College Station or in Austin's Royal-Memorial (UT home).

Sat, 8PM, 6A-1, Allen and Houston Cypress Ranch--Allen is northeast of Dallas, and Cy-Ranch is northwest of Houston. Either McLane or Kyle Field. Could've done it at Reliant in Houston, but that's probably Cy's home field...:))

Gilmer is about halfway from Dallas headed towards Texarkana. West Orange Stark is next to Houston. Have it at College Station.
Used to be the coaches would decide where it would be. In 2006 the 4 coaches in the semis got together and agreed to the Alamo Dome in San Antonio. Nice work, Jack Welch. Cove ends up playing Alamo Heights - campus is 10 minutes from the Alamo Dome. :))

Gee...I also forgot Waco has another field (other than those owned by Waco ISD)--Baylor's former home field at Floyd Casey Stadium.

I think they have pulled a lot out of that stadium, to include the grass.
For most of these high school championship games a decent sized high school stadium is plenty. Waco ISD stadium would be good for 4A and below, so would Round Rock and I'm sure many others around the state.

Vaguely recall Killeen's Leo Buckley Stadium was once used as a 3A playoff site years ago, or was it 2A or 4A?
Ellison's first run in the playoffs was a game at Texas Stadium in '83, if I remember correctly. Opponent was some east Texas school? Took a few years to get past Texas Stadium (first round at a different venue a few years later!)

Cove played at Leo Buckley in the playoffs, but think it was an area round game. And we played at Texas Stadium in 1997 - first time Cove made the playoffs since 1960!!!!! We played Irving Nimitz in the regional semis and I remember everyone was worried it was so close to Irving that they would have a huge crowd there. Cove shut down the city - must have had 10,000 fans there and we blew Nimitz out. The following week though we played Midland Lee with Cedric Benson at Angelo State Stadium and lost, but our RB, Vontez Duff, had a great game and outgained Benson by a ton. Even Lee's coach, who had Benson already committed to UT, said Duff was the best HS RB he had ever seen. Made All-American that year. Was injured for half his senior year, but was still heavily recruited and ended up at Notre Dame where they made him a defensive back. Idiots!! But he made the All-American team as a kick returner.

Temple and Aledo kick off at noon at Jerry's World.
This should be a great one - Aledo has won 5 or 6 in a row or something like that. They've been a state power ever since 2006 when Cove played them in the semis. At the time, the Aledo Bearcat's coach - a Killeen high grad (forget his name) stated when he played for the Roos it was unacceptable to lose to Copperas Cove. Cove then commenced to stomp their butts. And for good measure did it again the following year in the semis. But since then they have rolled to state championships.

There was a time when Cove was the laughing stock in 14-5A football (early '80s). They had a two-season long losing streak going (was it THREE seasons? I forget)...until they finally won a game--against Killeen! One would've thought they had won a state championship, what with the emotions on and off the field. They didn't win any other games that season, but they did have the one, and it was against the Roos.

Aledo is incredible. Since 2006 have been a powerhouse. They don't rebuild, they reload.
A great season for Temple though. Really wanted them to win it.
