October 5, 2014 - Local gun rights activists are not backing down from opposition.

In January of this year, a city of Erie ordinance banning the open carrying of weapons in public parks was deemed unenforceable and unlawful; the victor in that case was Justin Dillon, who was fined for carrying a weapon in Perry Square.

The Second Amendment grants Americans the right to bear arms but Dillon and pro-gun activist Kim Stolfer say political correctness is infringing upon that basic right.

"There's no record of a gun control law ever working and it's time for us to focus where the problem is, on the criminals...the career criminals," said President of Firearms Owners Against Crime (FOAC), "and not on seizing citizens' individual liberties." In the age where one can computer machine whatever one wants at home, regulation will have to bow to reality.
Among the ranks of Second Amendment advocacy organizations now stands the NFA Freedom Alliance (https://secure.nfafa.org/index.cfm), formed with the stated goal to expand the right to own, sell, and use National Firearms Act (http://www.guns.com/2013/01/03/gun-law-101-national-firearms-act-of-1934/)-regulated items.
The group, introduced this week, is helmed by Arizona lobbyist and long-time National Rifle Association board member Todd Rathner. Among other initiatives, the NFAFA plans to work on passage of “shall certif (http://www.guns.com/2014/04/26/mandatory-shall-sign-legislation-for-class-iii-nfa-items-sweeping-the-nation/%20)y” measures, now law in just seven states, nationwide. The legislation mandates that local the Chief Law Enforcement Officer in NFA parlance sign off on certifications for those applying for Title II firearms such as suppressors, machine guns, and short-barreled rifles and shotguns. From there the group wants to work with the U.S. Congress to eventually eliminate CLEO certification altogether.
In addition to the push for shall certify, the group has nearly a dozen stated goals (http://www.nfafa.org/about.cfm%20) ranging from streamlining and expediting the process to obtain a regulated device or firearm to pushing legislative reform at the state levels.
Finally, the group aims to eventually remove silencers, short-barreled rifles, and short-barreled shotguns from NFA regulatory control and repeal the 1986 Hughes Amendment that prohibits new made machine guns for civilian ownership.
