Ya, it's pretty stupid. The mental toughness it takes is testament enough. They HAVE to stay focused during every aspect of the race. Add to that the pit crews and their abilities to do what they do. You are talking about more than just the driver who is a world class athlete.

This pops up from time to time.
There is on the East Coast or some other Yankee outpost, a female known as "The Fabulous Sports Babe", who apparently is an "expert" on sports with her own sports radio show, and she wrote a book many years ago...
In her book, the ONLY time she mentions NASCAR, is to bash it by declaring it isn't a 'sport', because how hard could it POSSIBLY BE, to drive a car for 500 miles...

A check on the internet reveals that the FSB noted above is a woman named Nanci Donnellan. There is ANOTHER woman, a coed attending K-State named Ashley Dunkak, who's using the name Fabulous Sports Babe on the internet, and SHE is a NASCAR fan!! We shouldn't get the two confused (Dunkak is WAY more of a "Babe" than Donnellan anyway, judging by the photos of each!! :-) )
