Maybe the Zoo. Used to be "big" when I was a kid, due to the pandas and the original 'Smokey Bear'. Think all three have since died.

I really want to try and work this in! Right now it is a bit of a waiting game because we will not find out until 2 weeks before our trip if we get to tour the White House and FBI.

The point is, there are so many wonderful things to see, it takes more than a few days to even get around to half of them.
My dream trip is to visit Gettysburg and take a few days to see more than the canned tours they provide.
I hope you both have a great time. It is quality time for bonding, and very educational... Just stay away from congress.. AT least if you are carrying any money.

While I was in the Boy Scouts, Troop 82, Wall, NJ, I had the privilege to spend many a weekend over the years at Gettysburg as well as Valley Forge. Got the Frozen Nose 'n, Toes Award for winter camping. Neat places and go in the Spring.

There are many great places to see outside of DC. My last tour was at Ft Monroe, VA and we went to the local battlefields, including the Yorktown Battlefield where the English surrendered to Washington and the nation won its independence. It's less than a 2 hour drive from DC.
