    CRAZY money

More college football openings this year than usual...salaries are absolutely crazy. .....Nick Saban, Alabama, $9.9 million a year, Jimbo Fisher, A&M, new contract, 10 year, $95 million, Mel Tucker, Michigan State, 10 year, $95 million....Dabo Swinney, Clemson, James Franklin, Penn State, $8 million plus.....
In 2006, Brian Kelly made $186,000 dollars for coaching Central Michigan. That's roughly what he will now make for a week and a half's work at LSU. ... His new contract at LSU will pay him roughly $10,000,000 a year, for ten years, plus perks, including a private jet for personal use, as well as recruiting.
The BIG contract is former OU football coach Lincoln Riley's contract with USC, details of which are supposedly private, since USC is a private school. ,,,,He will, according to reports, receive between $10 to $12 million a year, for a 10 year contract,.. with USC buying his two homes in Norman for $500,00 over list. ...He gets all the perks, including a private jet for private use as well as recruiting, plus..performance incentives to add to his salary.

Saw a trailer for a new movie due out later this month, called 'National Championship', in which a college player on the eve of the NCAA bowl, decides to call on his teammates and the other team to boycott playing, due to the lack of money NOT going to the athletes, but instead to the coaches, the colleges, and the NCAA. His coach is played by J.K. Simmons.

With the new pay for play rules for college athletes now, I think all the University of Texas football and and basketball athletes are getting paid right at $6,000, up to $10,000 a month (not sure of the amount) now by the university. They also are getting paid by private sources for commercials, being influencers, etc.
There are a couple of major universities that have one or two deep pocketed alums funding "their" whole football teams with thousands of dollars for each player.
I think all of this is a HUGE mistake for college athletics. Some universities, such as UT, will be able to pay their athletes big money. Other universities, not so much. ..For example, TCU and Baylor will not have the deep pocketed alums that UT has..a huge recruiting disadvantage for them. ...Remember "Show me the money"?.....
Will colleges in the future be required to pay all female athletes like they are paying the men's sports?
..Will the universities be required to pay the athletes in non revenue sports such as soccer and tennis the same as football and basketball players? With the transfer portal rules being so liberal now, will there be behind the scenes bidding wars for players?
In the future,..... will we see college football players demanding to be allowed to go pro after their freshman year like basketball players can do now, going to the NBA??
The NCAA has lost a huge amount of control over college sports, thanks to a couple of court decisions. Some people think that is a great thing. I don't. ...I see a lot of mess coming with the future of college athletics.

On a more positive note....if you would like to see a really great movie about football, watch "Friday Night Lights"...not the tv series, but the movie. The soundtrack, the movie...really good.

Years ago, Sports Illustrated did an indepth story on paying college athletes. Some colleges could well afford itm, but many can't, particularly if the pay extended down to "lesser" sports like swimming and golf, or even womens' teams. (the trailer for 'National Championship" has a scene where the athlete who starts the "players strike" gets chewed out by a woman who apparently works for the college, who admonishes him for not thinking about what happens to womens' sports teams on campus).
SI proposed the NCAA split the colleges up. Not quite what we have now with BCS teams and FCS schools, but a 'super' college league, where schools like Notre Dame, USC, Alabama, and UT can even field semi-pro athletes, and everyone else continue to have "student athletes" on their teams. Wonder what the NCAA thought of that.

Texas University supporters have just started a 10 million dollar NIL fund for UT athletes.

I can see court cases concerning Title IX, payments to female athletes and non revenue producing sports, coming in the future.
Amazing how liberals can even screw up college athletics.

My hope is that they succeed in screwing them up so bad as to destroy them. Then the Universities can get back to doing what they were given the mission to do, education and research.

I wonder how they're paying the rest of their faculty and staff vs the players/coaches. Either they're going to have some upset workers, or it sounds like I may need to go put in a few job applications.

All of the "rest" of the faculty and staff that will be instrumental in making over $225 million dollars a year profit for the university will get huge raises.

Lud, there are still a few universities like that...people just don't hear about them like the ones being discussed.
Sports will disappear about the same time as hypocrites and sanctimonious people...
