A normal shoulder has the ball of the joint on the humerus and the socket on the scapula, in this case, the artificial joint is reversed.
He had to do this due to the rotator cuff being so thin and damaged from 7 other surgeries, somehow, reversing the shoulder anatomically somehow allows for more strength.

To help with the pain, try to sleep in a recliner or reclined in bed with a pillow behind your elbow to move your arm slightly away from your body. Wear your sling. I said this prayer for you for the intercession of St. Paulinus of Nola, the Patron Saint for sore shoulders. Perhaps you can add that prayer to your prayer list as well.
Lord,
you made Saint Paulinus
renowned for his love of poverty.
May we who celebrate his witness to the gospel
imitate his example of love for others.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
Amen.

My prayer is for fast healing.
My mother had the same surgery, and it did well.
Here is an alternative pillow idea, if you can't sleep on your back.
(Some of us just can't sleep on our back)

Not promoting that exact one, just saying something along that line of thinking, even home made, might help.
I don't mind being called far right.
I have been right so far.
