UT Football
New University of Texas football coach Steve Sarkisian received a six year deal worth $34.2 million dollars.
Texas has shattered all records and athletic department norms with new football staff contracts that will pay out
millions in multi-year deals.
The Longhorns will also have two coordinators and a special teams coordinator making over a million annually.
Sarkisian's contract also has all the typical perks that UT head coaches receive, like two courtesy cars, club membership,
private airplane use, and use of a suite on game days. He will also receive $250,000 in relocation and temporary housing
allowance.
Sarkisian's deal also includes a special one time payment of $1.2 million as a "stay" bonus in 2024. He can
also receive $675,000 in annual team performance bonuses, $100,000 for winning Coach of the Year, and $50,000 for being named
Big12 Coach of the Year.
All of the UT assistants can make up to 19% of their annual salaries in performance bonuses.
All money used within UT athletics is generated most through TV revenue, ticket sales, and private donations. No public money
is used to fund any aspect of the Longhorns' athletic department.

He is a college coach, employed by UT, and paid by the school, from profits made from the athletic program and private donors.

well then he's paid with public money................money's fungible.............kind of like kool ade.....if you pour a glass half full with red kool ade and fill it the rest of the way up with orange kool ade.....you will never be able to pour out only the red or only the orange kool ade.
if ut fills it's purse with taxpayer money and private money....it all becomes UT money..........and anything taken out of it to pay a coach or a teacher or a janitor is a mix of public and private money.......kapich?..........mac

Whichever way you would like to look at it, that's fine with me. ...However, if it wasn't for the profit gained by the football program, it would not exist as such, be that as it may. The money that football generates would not be there.
Like Joe Friday, just the facts.
A band is asked by the university to come on UT's campus and give a performance. The band flies UT flags and puts up promotional ads welcoming a huge crowd to The University of Texas. The band supplies the venue, pays all the expenses, makes a huge amount of money. Would UT think that they should share in the profit from the performance to pay teachers, coaches, janitors, campus police, etc?

The university would not miss it. It would just raise tuition and fees to an even more exorbitant level. I really would like to see an audit of all state funded schools. Someone is living a lot larger than they should, other than the football coach.

No, UT would not expect to share in the profit. But then I doubt that UT has ever asked any band to come on its campus and give a performance. Rather it's the bands that do the asking because they know that they'll "make a huge amount of money."

No public money is used to fund UT football.
Bands were used just as an example.
Do you think that all state funded schools are not audited?

An example of what.

Whether they are or are not is unknown. That's the problem. We don't have transparency. If they are, they are keeping the results from us. If they are not, then they are keeping their malfeasance from us. Either way, we lose.

nope, not really. i think that ut and the band should've made a contract and used their own venue.....what ut expected to receive from the gig up front and agreed to by both the band and ut, and what the band expected to receive in the way of seating, shelter, facilities etc etc. profits be damned....
at the same time they should contract with a vendor or two......
ut should not be concerned with profits.
the band should be concerned with profits.........mac
