I shot a hog once and left him to rot in the pasture. The buzzards were not even interested in feeding off it. After about five days, thinking that perhaps the hide was too tough for the buzzards, I split the carcass open. They still did not want any part of it and I finally had to bring in the scoop loader to bury it.

Watch out, because they use a blood thinner poison to kill them. I've never seen it personally but it's suppose to turn the fat blue. A marker it's been poisoned.
You fed the trees by burying it. I'd bury it under a garden.
