UPDATE: The Athletic?s Jeff Gluck says the number will be in front of the rear wheel, but further back from it?s usual location.

NASCAR has informed teams it will use a ?new paint scheme concept? for the All-Star Race. The number is slid back to just in front of the rear wheel. This is the example they sent to teams. pic.twitter.com/VHSIwveo10

ORIGINAL POST: Sports Business Journal?s Adam Stern reports that NASCAR may run cars at the All-Star Race with the number on the rear quarter panel, rather than the traditional door panel.

The consideration for NASCAR is to give sponsors more exposure on the side of the cars.

.@NASCAR is considering moving numbers to the rear quarter panel of the car for next month's All-Star Race, as a first-time experiment for the Cup Series, per sources.

? NASCAR's K&N Series started experimenting with this in 2017 to see if it gives sponsors better branding. pic.twitter.com/Icu2YGfCmp
