Let California have pay for play... Then do away with all those pesky athletic scholarships since the players will be making plenty in both salary and sales marketing anyhow.
If UMHB had that system, the player in question could have been driving around in a brand new Porsche and not Petes old beater.

They are the governing body for college sports - which are amateur.

California is allowing them to earn money through businesses for their ability and whatever they ask of them. Say MGM wants to put a student in an ad for their products etc. As I understand it. it isn't direct pay for play but certainly skirts the fringes of it....for example say a student is a swimmer, he/she can do an advertisement for a swim suit company wearing a swim suit with the college logo on it and get paid....

The NCAA will ban them from the NCAA and they will have to play themselves.

And as Californians, they are good at playing with themselves.
