    Thanks all.
In the meantime, I am told that I have a hernia that may need surgery. I guess the good thing is that with this fancy picc line, I shouldn't need a new IV...lol
Update: As it turned out, I had bilateral hernias. The left felt worse than the right, but on the right, the scan showed that my bladder had slipped into the tear. The first Darnall surgeon I was referred to said I didn't have a hernia on either side. My doctor was not pleased with this diagnosis, so she referred me to Metroplex. That surgeon confirmed the hernias, but Tricare wouldn't approve treatment, so I was referred back to Darnall, different surgeon who seemed very competent. She offered to write the referral to Metroplex if I wanted, but I told her that I was comfortable with her and didn't want to continue the Tricare dance.

Surgery was this past Monday, the 7th. It was much worse than expected. It was supposed to take 1.5 hours, but took over four and she had to call in two more surgeons to help her. They were able to get both sides fixed laparoscopicaly (sp). I feel bad for the person who was scheduled after me because I know what it's like to wait with no food after midnight and all.

Lots of pain and swelling now, but hopefully, this is the last of the surgeries.

As for the shoulder, All indications are that the infection is gone.

Wow. 4 hours of surgery has got to be devastating to the body. Hope you heal right and can get back on your feet soon.

I too wish you a speedy recovery, and will say that waiting for
surgery is a lot easier to do for four hours than recovering
from 4 hours of being "under." I am glad your anesthesiologist
was just as competent as your surgeon.
I don't mind being called far right.
I have been right so far.

Had a hernia repaired at Metroplex several years ago. Primary surgeon was formerly active duty at Darnall ACH. (aw, he liked it here and decided to stay...) Think he actually retired a few years ago from being an active doctor.

Blessed Savior, we thank you that this operation is safely past, and we pray that now Rick will rest in your abiding presence, relaxing every tension, releasing every care and anxiety, receiving more and more of your healing life into every part of his being. In moments of pain may he turn to you for strength, in times of loneliness may he feel your loving nearness. Grant that Your life and love and joy may flow through him for the healing of others in your name. Amen.
