Freezing Faucets

What does everyone do to protect their outside faucets from freezing? I have one that faces the west and it seems to freeze all the time. I have one of those styrofoam covers on it and i also tried wrapping it with an old rag and plastic bags inside of that cover. No luck.

what is your west wall.....kitchen?......bed room, dining room, living room?

The back of our house faces north and we have had our bathroom faucet freeze even with the styrofoam cover and a rag wrapped around the faucet. We we have done is wrap the inside valves under the sinks with old dish towels and is has stopped it. We also have opened our cabinet doors at night so it wont freeze as well. Did this a couple years ago and it has been fine since.

It is in between my front room and a bedroom. I know chimneys are well insulated but you would think it would have provided some type of warmth. It was going till after 2 am. In the picture the brick is wet from me pouring hot water on it.

is the backside of that spigot close to your bathroom sink? If so, just open the doors under the sink to keep it from freezing up.....

same thing applies to those of us who have a spigot close to the kitchen sink.....just leave the doors under the sink open........mac

oh my....i hate to give you another problem, XZ but it looks like your flashing is coming off of the south side of your chimney, up there....if so, that'll cause your roof to leak this spring.....mac

Thanks for looking out for me but the flashing is okay. I had someone up there replacing a few shingles last year and they thought the same thing until they looked at it. Whoever did our roofs when the houses were built did the flashing like this. The guy said he had no idea why but it was secure and not leaking. I do need to get a new roof though just never enough money.

Even though it's outdoors? I do that inside but when I think about doing it outside I just imagine a long icicle going into the faucet.

Water down here is expensive. My mom used to let hers drip in NJ in the winter. It saved her a 60 dollar service call. It is only going to be below frezing at night until Friday. You could wrap it with a hot wet towel at night before bed, if you are OCD like me. You have a back flow on the nozzle so letting it drip will make that annoying noise as the water runs.
