    Fundraising Pet Peeve

I needed to add this rant in a safe place...

if you bid on a silent auction item and win it, it is in extremely poor taste to tell the caller that you want to back out and don't want the item anymore.
Silent Auctions are great fundraisers for students because 100% of the money brought in goes directly to them unlike many fundraisers where the school/organization only gets 40-50%

I just called on an item and got that "We need to back out" routine.
My comment was "Well, if you are comfortable backing out and taking away from the students..." The item in question was a custom built bicycle that one of the students built. It's really cool. The chain needs to be tightened a hair, but other than that it's great and even has suspension, for a winning bid of only $50.

Maybe it's just that I was raised differently, but I don't bid unless I can pay, and I don't bid unless I want the item.

*caveat - most of our bidders were really nice and a few rounded up or gave us extra.

There's always that one guy. Don't be that guy!

    AAARGH!!!!!!

    **end rant**

This fool can peddle anywhere. But no, I can't pedal from Fairbanks to Killeen. But I know how to pack a bike for air transport if need be.

And that $50 bike would soon be $200.

Maybe he can still buy it and then the school can pass it on and donate the bike to a children's hospital or a family in need?
