We used to call Killeen animal control on dead skunks all the time and they would tactfully choose to not respond to our calls.

My boss decided to try a new approach and called in dead cats on the airport road. When they showed up they would get mad and complain that we had given them a false lead on a dead cat.

My boss simply smiled at them and said that it was a cat... A polecat. He also reminded them that their job was to remove dead animals from public conveyance routes because they were a hazard. And that conventional calls to them were ignored.

I once had a skunk living under the shed in my back yard. Stuffed a sock with other socks, and drenched it in ammonia. Then stuffed the thing down the hole. Didn't take long for that skunk to move on.

I'd rather smell skunk than amonia... but that's just me... I also like the smell of a Greyhound bus.

Definitely out now that they have those gosh-awful toilets that make the whole bus smell like a toilet.

Supposedly you can also use Franks Hot Sauce instead of ammonia as well. Guess the skunks don't like it all that spicy.

Is there a particular season on skunk?
Are they protected in any way?

My truck got shot by one last night on the way home from work.
In retrospect, I kinda wish I hadn't swerved to miss him, since
he got my passenger side door as I passed.

I know this skunk. One of the units on Ft. keeps him as a pet.
Might be time to break out the crossbow.
I don't mind being called far right.
I have been right so far.

No season, nor protection, for skunk exists in Texas. They are considered to be vermin and carriers of rabies.

I, almost having lost my life swerving for a dog, have made it a practice to not swerve for any critter smaller than an adult deer.

    Good hunting!

Read a story in Reader's Digest YEARS ago written by someone who found a baby skunk, and raised it as a pet. Apparently, Mama skunk was hit by a car and killed, leaving the baby to fend for itself.
The writer noted that he/she was wondering about the stories previously heard about people who raised skunks, but only after having the skunk's scent nodes (or whatever the scent sprayer is called) surgically removed by a veterinarian. Turns out, the skunk "owned" by the author accidently sprayed itself while in its pet bed--it was the LAST TIME that skunk ever sprayed for any reason.
