    2015 Texas Longhorns

Instead of posting individual threads about news, I think I will start a Longhorn thread since I tend to read about them the most.

Ok, trying to think of some news...

Harker Heights other massive highly recruited OL, 4* Camrhon Hughes 6'6" 324 lbs, has also been dismissed from the Longhorns this summer as well. Camrhon is a junior OT this year at UT and was part of the 2012 HS class. His brother, Naashon Hughes (2013 HS class), is reportedly doing very well in summer workouts

And, already mentioned in another thread 6'4 310 C/OG, Darius James, dismissal from the team recently.

Local players to watch this season:

#21 Duke Thomas (Sr): going into summer camp, he should be the favorite to start on the defense at one of the CB positions; most likely right CB.

#40 Naashon Huges (So): Naashon is not as big as his brother at 6'4, 215 lbs but is doing very well on the defensive side of the ball and should see a lot of playing time this year at outside LB or with his hand on the ground as a rushing LB/DE.

Even after five mediocre seasons and a coaching staff change, Longhorn tickets still sell at a premium...

AUSTIN — One year after failing to fill Royal-Memorial Stadium even once during a 6-7 season, Texas still is proving itself to be a huge draw away from home.

Tickets for the Longhorns’ games at Notre Dame and against Oklahoma are among the most expensive in college football on the resale market, according to figures updated this week by Vivid Seats.

To attend UT’s season opener against the Fighting Irish in South Bend, Indiana, on Sept. 5, fans are paying a median price of $789. Only Notre Dame’s game against Boston College at Fenway Park (median price of $887) is in higher demand.

As usual, the annual Red River rivalry game at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas is a tough ticket as well. To get into the Oct. 10 UT-OU game, fans are paying a median price of $447. That makes it the fourth most expensive ticket in college football, right behind Alabama-Auburn.

UT received a 5,000-ticket allotment for the Notre Dame game (it will distribute the same number to the Fighting Irish when they play in Austin in 2016). Those seats were made available for Longhorns season ticket holders to purchase, in order of their rank in UT’s loyalty points system. The same system is used to allocate tickets to the OU game.

For other fans, one of the only ways to get into either UT-Notre Dame or the Red River game is by hitting the secondary market. A look at StubHub this week showed the cheapest available ticket seat at Notre Dame — high in the corner above the end zone — costs $449. And for $3,582.50, a fan can get a seat a few rows behind the Longhorns bench.

Longhorn tickets will always be at a premium. They could go 0-12 and still have packed stadiums.
Duke Thomas is a pre-season Big 12 honoree. Some may remember him by his real name - Orlando Thomas. Played QB for the Dawgs his junior and senior years. Not much of a passer, but drove defenses crazy with his
    running ability.

yeah, Texas has a lot of fans with deep pockets willing to pay exorbiant prices for the social experience. I guess if you got it, you can waste it.

Copperas Cove does what a lot of high schools do and that is put the ball in their best athlete's hands every play by putting him at the most important postion. IMO, In like manner, I think Robert Griffin would still be playing at a high level if he had played DB

2014 Jasper HS 6'1 289 lb OL, Terrell Cuney, was arrested yesterday for shoplifting at an Austin Walmart....

Vanessa Bremner of the Austin Police Department, who said Texas OL Terrell Cuney was arrested and charged with Class B misdemeanor theft by shoplifting at the Austin Walmart at 1030 Norwood Park on Wednesday at about 1:20 pm CT.

If convicted, Cuney faces up to 180 days in jail and a fine up to $2,000. Cuney has no previous convictions, according to Bremner.

Today, Charlie Strong just said Terrell Cuney, who faces a Class B misdemeanor theft by shoplifting charge, will still be with the team, "but there's some things he needs to do first." Everyone knows of Charlie's 5 "core values" and this definitely violates the core values but he also believes in giving second chances. Darius James, for instance, was given several chances and he kept messing up. It's unlikely Cuney stays on the team if convicted, but if he does it's very likely it will be painful and he will not see any game time.
