Well, things do get out of control on here don't they. One minute we are loading muskets, the next thing we are doing is...well...something else.
I still say that FP needs to take pictures and send them to Astronomy magazine whenever she gets a chance. They regularly post pictures from folks in the mag, and discuss what you are seeing. Who knows...may be able to get a few bucks for the effort. Lord knows the school system doesn't pay enough.
As much as I hate the cold, I sometimes envy the folks up there for their environment. Not that I minded the 70 degree spring day we had today.
If you do not read the news you are uninformed. If you do you are misinformed. Mark Twain

I see there are aurora forecasts for the next three nights.
Hope you Alaskans get to see some of the lights.
I don't mind being called far right.
I have been right so far.

well last week turned out to be something of a dud, but you should be getting spectacular Aurora the next couple of nights (as well as last night).

Did you send your drones up there to do a flyover?
Light travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.

There is a web page that tracks radiation and particle emissions from the Sun that impact earths atmosphere, satellites, and such. It also tracts magnetic storms caused by solar flares, and when one impacts the Earth a side effect is Aurora Borialis. Other side effects are satellite problems, radio outages, and in extreme cases, the power grid will shut down, leading to widespread blackout. It has an effect similar to a high altitude nuke (EMP).

I'm currently up in southern Minnesota (yes, we just got hammered with some serious snow, with more on the way) and the paper said that the lights were visible here the day before we got here.

Now look, Mestral, I know this is not true. We all know it's Santa's elves up there with lots of high powered flashlights.

And they tinkle green and that's why the lights are always green.

We actully have some dark now. There is also a definite autumnal feel in the air.
Sept 21 ought to have a 12/12 split between sunrise and sunset. It's been ery wet and icky this summer. I think I saw two days get to 80.
