    Local piano teachers?

Does anyone know of any good piano teachers in the Temple/Belton/Salado area? Would prefer someone who belongs to a national federation for music teachers and has a degree in music. If you have any recommendations (or non-recommendations!) please let me know. Thanks!

I agree, Elaine Garcia is fantastic! Very sweet, and does she know her stuff!

I know Elaine Garcia, she's done some music work at VLA Theatre. But doesn't she teach in Killeen? I'll check out UMHB Conservatory, for some reason I had a massive brain fart and forgot that UMHB was an option.

Much of what you are seeking depends on the level of the player.

I do, however, agree that Elaine is wonderful. She got the string program at Mountainview rolling before KISD ever really had strings. She is very strong in foundational teaching and is the reason that my daughter is the amazing cellist that she is today.

FP I thought a piano had keys, not strings.

lol - Elaine is a very musical person with multiple teaching talents.

    Her daughters are too.

And here's your first piano lesson: The "keys" activate a little hammer inside that hits the "strings". To play the piano, you push the key down AND you let the key back up. :0

My daughter is pretty much a beginner. She's been allowed to plunk around on the piano since she was a baby since I used to teach piano lessons myself (for a small while in college I was a piano performance major, then realized how much I hated practicing, so I switched to a Music Education major), but she knows some of the basics, like note names and note values. I've tried teaching her myself, but she and I are far too much alike in personality and it's just better for her to learn from someone else. Like mother, like daughter - my mother is an accomplished pianist, and she tried teaching me piano when I was little but it resulted in a lot of arguing and crying.

Exactly. It belongs to the zither group. It is considered both a percussion and stringed instrument. So you are half correct. Google is a great thing.

Lol - I'm a degrees concert pianist and I've never heard it put in a "zither" group before.

But it was on the Internet.

    And I'm a French model!
