Fantastic. We didn't get to see those when we were there, it was dull green that was difficult to see.

The green light is the aurora (the visual light leaking through as a the earth's magnetic field fends off a solar flare, but a little leaks in through the poles.)

It shows up a little brighter than the camera.

When I took the dog out last night, I had to look for a minute as my eyes acclimated to the dark to make sure it wasn't a cloud.

Then it intensified a little and one end of the arc was dancing a little. It hasn't always looked so much like a rainbow or a weather front.

There has been a lot of solar flare activity reprted lately..Should be a good show since you are so close to the terminal end of the Van Allen radiation belt where the magnetic fields fend off the solar radiation.

Beautiful shot. You should send it to Astronomy magazine. They publish shots like this all the time.

Thank ST, I'll mention to my husband.

2013 is supposed to be a busy year for solar activity. hopefully he'll have a lot of opportunities to use that new camera lens that we got for him for Christmas.

In fact, we have a standing agreement for the next one we spot that we'll grab the camera and some blankets and go to so more picturesque picture-taking spot thus making it a fun date as well.

Been seeing the Aurora Borealis lately? I forgot to mention it last night, should have been good, and maybe tonight.

Well, pictures or no pictures, glad you had a good adventure. The storms should go on through the rest of the year, so you should get more chances to get pictures. I check that page daily, so next time, maybe I'll be "with it' and give you a better warning.
