    My dog's tail went limp

This morning I heard one of my dog's yelp. I went to check on her and she didn't jump on me like she normally does. I also noticed her tail was limp. It would hang low but it would still wag, just not as much. I checked for bite marks, swelling, or any other abnormalities (none) and for snakes (none). She's still eating a little (which isn't unusual b/c of the heat) but she seems a little down. Has anyone seen this before?

Wonder if she jumped at something and strained her hip? Hope it isn't anything serious.

Good luck and I hope it's nothing serious. Never seen this problem myself.

My dog (lab mix) got the same. Vet said it was Cold Water tail. Look it up on the internet and see if symptoms match. It went away in a few days but he was in pain for a while.

This may be what I call a "broken tail". The muscles at the base of the tail become strained or paralyzed and the dog is unable to hold it up and is often very painful. Those that I have seen usually resolve on their own in a few days with only anti-inflammatory medication and rest.
