    Sprinkler System

The fellows from Heights Nursery just got finished installing our lawn sprinkler system.
Anybody have any good ideas about watering times? I favor late afternoons, after the heat of the day. The system is currently set for an early morning session. I dislike that idea because that falls during delivery time for the newspaper.

I set my own home and my rentals for early morning to not affect water pressure. Around 2 or 3:00 am should get several stations to run entirely and not get deliveries wet or damp.

Best time is early morning (2-4am) so the water does not cause mold issues in your lawn. Watering in the late evening allows the ground to stay damp and mold will start to overtake your lawn.

That's usually not a big issue here in the GREAT state during the summer time. The late evenings is when the winds seem to be the most calm and you don't have to worry about the water blowing in the street

I have always heard the same thing, early morning or later in the evening. That's how they did it in Arizona.

I just put a sprinkler out and usually water the entire lawn over a 5 days period. Usually one hour each week will provide a good enough soaking.
If you have that thing set to come on every day you are wasting water.

Grass needs about 1 inch of water each week. Water each zone for about 30 minutes twice a week. Be prepared to pay a higher water bill.

I almost agree with this, except you should wait, as has been said, for the wind to die down. And also the sun to set. Both will steal a portion of your water.

Is there some reason no one picked midnight? If you are worried about lawn fungus or the news paper, 10-12pm or 12am-2am seems best to me. (I assume 11pm-1am would be a problem for the timer, plus the city ordinance, once restrictions start) I personally would go for 12-2am.
I don't mind being called far right.
I have been right so far.
