Penn State was trying to protect the legacy of JoePa and nothing else. He is an icon for college football and they could not let an icon fall. The result is what is happening today. JoePa should do the right thing and resign effective immediately.

Yep, announced he will retire at the end of this season.
The is the same thing Ohio State did - trying to protect Jim Tressel at first until it became obvious they could not shield him anymore.
In both cases - the "loyal" universities then threw the two under the bus.

Who does the university have loyality to? A football coach that abused children? Probably not where loyality should lie.

JoePa reported the information. We don't know the rest of the story yet. dosesn't sound like he covered the story up.

But he didn't follow through either. Put yourself in JoePa position. I would have called the police in a heartbeat. Let them do their job, but that would have tarished his rep. What would you have done?

No, I make no excuse for anyone, priest or lay person. I just find it curious that there is no outrage unless it is a Catholic a priest who is accused. No, I do not hold priests to a higher standard, neither do I hold bishops or even the pope to a higher standard. I understand that all human beings are capable for falling short. IMO, to hold anyone to a higher standard is a gross disservice to that person.
Is there sufficient outrage now for ya?

Something I heard on a sports talk show today--according to one of the hosts, IF it looks like Penn State SHOVED JoePa out the door without giving him a chance to resign, then the Penn State alumni and boosters will DROP THEIR support of the university, and the school could potentially lose out on MILLIONS of dollars that could've been used to further Penn State's academic and athletic goals.

Read USA Today today. The front page Sports story claimed that the UNIVERSITY cancelled the press conference that Paterno was scheduled to tell his side of the story, leaving him without an "official" venue to tell it, YET there was a columnist inside the Sports section that stated that JoePa HIMSELF cancelled the press conference. Which was it?

Apples to oranges. Comparing what happened at Ohio State doesn't even come close to the tragedy at Penn State. OSU players sold and traded **** they own for tattoos and petty cash and Tressel tried to cover it up. He shouldn't have. Very fitting that he is with the (0-everything) Colts now. But in the end, no one got hurt.

What happened at Penn State ruined lives of innocent children.

Paterno admitted that all he did was report it to the two who are indicted for covering it up. For some reason, that was all he was required by law to do. He had a moral obligation to do more.

We ALL would have a moral obligation to do more.

The Penn State Board of Trustees has voted to fire historic football coach Joe Paterno effective tonight.

That is from KXXV's facebook page
