Not many on here remember him, but in his day he was the best pitcher in the game. Did 4+ years of navy service during WWII, or may have won more games than anyone. I saw him pitch his last game at Cleveland Stadium, think it was 1954. Somewhere around this house I still have a baseball he autographed.

I remember him but then I was just a youngster... Those were the days and they played for the love of the game not the love of the money... I also remember watching the Dodgers play at Ebbett's (not sure of the spelling) and the Giants played at the Polo Grounds... :smoke

I wish he had pitched for the Yankees.

He no hit the Yankees on opening day, forget what year it was.
