my 10 yr old chow mix has started limping on her right leg, Sometimes she wont even walk on it at all. She has had no injury. As of now, i can't afford to take her to the vet. Is there any over the counter meds that are safe I could give her to help her out?

Have you checked inbetween the pads on her feet? Sometimes our dog gets into fire ants and gets sores from the bites. There's a spray at Tractor Supply (I think) for the sores if that's the case. Good luck!

My chow got sore in her final years. Our vet said she could have half an aspirin, or a whole baby aspirin. It made her sleepy, but she didn't hurt as much.

See http://www.school-for-champions.com/animalhealth/aspirin.htm.

Note that it says no Tylenol or Advil and recommends 5 mg per pound of weight.

Our Vet advised one 320 MG aspirin up to twice a day to manage joint pain in our 70 pound dog. That's right in line with what this web site recommends.

Ask the vet!!
If Dr Buckley feels the need to actually see the dog, then he'll understand upfront why you're reluctant and be willing to work with you on payment.
