Canadians can buy this rifle for about $500 Canadian = $300 US but we can't (thanks to the import ban).

the M-14 is the only firearm with which I have ever hit a trainfire target shooting standing, unsupported, at 700 yards.

I own an M1A and love it... It is about as close to an M14 as you can get. They did shave off the bayonet lug and it only fires semi auto, but hose things are easily remedied.

Can you use .308 in your M1A or do you keep to .762 x 51?

I prefer the inappropriate Batman water gun

The manufacturer recommends strictly 7.62 mmm Nato ammo. In fact, I had a real hard time getting a straight answer out of someone about the 308, and have found others split on the idea... Nobody seems to have a definitive answer.

One thing I do note is that when you buy ammo online, they do not differentiate between the 2 and say they are interchangeable. I have shot 308 out of it without any problems just because I wanted to see if there would be.

It's sort of like some of the 223.5.56mm controversy and has something to do with the pressures involved in the chamber. Evidently the 308 has a higher chamber pressure that 7.62, but 5.56 has higher pressure than 223... I shoot both 223 and 5.56 out of my AR, which is designed for 5.56... Doesn't seem to make any difference if you ask me. They all chamber the same.

Oh, and I have a ton of 7.62x51 simply because it is cheaper and easily bought in bulk.

AT first I was a bit leery of recoil, but find that my AK kicks harder that the M1A.

Never got to carry one in the army and was always fascinated with it. I was trying to buy a Remington M24 Sniper Weapons system as I got to fire one of those while deployed and loved it, but for 5700 bucks decided it was too Grey Poupon for me....

I'm one of those that holds there to be a difference in those calibers and while a 308 or 556 chambered weapon could probably handle its weaker cousin without much problem, I wouldn't want to try things the other way around for too long.

Speaking of Canadians... I see that many of those fearing renewed immigration emphasis are making good use of the porous borders up north.

Seems the Canadians are now rethinking their immigration policies as well... Hope they have a good welfare and social benefits savings account.
