Cove goes to Belton.
Shoemaker is hosted by Ellison.
And the big one - Heights goes to Midway. Go Knights!!
Killeen and most other local schools have a bye.

I think Midway is the runaway favorite for district and should go through it undefeated....but it wouldn't surprise me to see Heights or Cove upset them.

I don't think anyone is gonna beat them in district. They have become the district powerhouse. They beat Lake Travis, and Lake Travis destroyed Cove, although that was the game that Cove's QB got hurt on the second play of the game.
I'm sure Heights and Cove will give them a battle, but just don't see it happening.

That's true about Midway. They just need to watch and not led their guard down. Last year Shoemaker stunned them.

Anyone find it odd that when Waco HS started their downward tumble, Midway started their rise to power??
Johnny Tusa, former Waco Lions head coach, saw it coming and retired. Was not a coincidence - families moving in droves outside of Waco into Hewitt.

It's not just that families are moving out to Hewitt. Waco ISD has been hit hard academically (Unacceptable) and because of such those students have been allowed to transfer to Midway high school. That's one of the main reasons that Waco High and University have become so BAD.

Sure - same thing - families moving, students leaving.
I remember 10 years ago when my daughter was in Cove Jr and played volleyball. They had a match at Midway. Their jr hs, which was their old hs, was huge compared to Cove HS. They should have been in 5-A 10 years ago, but somehow managed to slide through the cracks.
Their athletic programs are really built up now. They don't win everything, but are good in everything.

The Waco schools are a mess. I know a young lady took a job with KISD after working in Waco schools a few years. Regardless of any issues KISD has, she says it is wonderful compared to Waco. I think some of the same has happened in Temple. The new growth in Temple is on the west side which is part of Belton ISD. Belton is now the largest high school in out UIL district and Temple dropped classification.

Very true, but still love Waco ISD Stadium. :)

It is by far the nicest HS stadium around. A shame they don't have better teams to play there now.

Belton is at the Dawg 8, time for one play. Incomplete pass. Now they say 1 second left. What b.s. Definitely home officiating.

CenTexDave
October 3rd, 2014, 9:56 PM
4th quarter starting. Dawgs need to put on a long, sustained, time consuming drive. They have been scoring too quick. The Dawgs' D was on the field for 10 of the 3rd quarter's 12 minutes.

CenTexDave
October 3rd, 2014, 9:58 PM

Last nights Eagles/Grey Wolves game was a disappointment to us Eagle fans. The Wolves had an awesome defense. No matter how many times the Eagles ran it up the middle (yes, the McBride playbook seems to have been found) they were there.

But in all fairness, their pass coverage was even better than their run coverage.

It was a good win for the Wolves, and they earned it.

I am very much concerned that the Eagles of years past have reemerged. But, I will still be in the stands rooting them on. It ain't over yet.

Sorry you were disappointed. Things won't get better next Friday night when they come to the Dawg Pound. :)
