My dog's crusty eyes

My dog has crusts around both of his eyes and one eye looks cloudy. Neither eye is swollen and they are both wide open. He's otherwise fine. Is it ok for me to put saline or visene in there? One of my other dogs had this in one of her eyes and it just went away after two days.
