The Centex Humane Society needs foster homes for our heartworm positive dogs. All they need is a home to heal. It is hard to find adoptive homes for them, because of misconceived notions, and they pace in the kennel day in and day out, which is stressing them more - which does not provide ultimate healing conditions. All expenses are paid, and you can opt to adopt the animal at any time, or return it.

You can walk them, love them, feed them... they just have to have regular treatment, once a month. They are not on aggressive treatment, because the medicine is not available, so their treatment takes longer, but is easier on their system, also.
Heart worms are not contagious, as some folks seem to think. They are microscopic parasites transmitted by mosquitoes and rather common in these parts of the country. Here is a link that explains more: http://www.dogheartworm.org/
